Jungle
Maverick moviemaker Ram Gopal Varma is ready to unveil his new
thriller, a gritty and raw-edged jungle adventure that he claims
would be unlike any other film made in Bollywood. Now in
"Jungle," Varma goes deeper into unexplored territory.
The character has been inspired by the notorious southern Indian
sandalwood smuggler Veerappan. "Veerappan definitely served
as the reference point for my villain's character. That could not
be helped. If someone wants to make a film on the dacoits of
Chambal Valley, he has to take Phoolan Devi into consideration.
When I thought of making a film about bandits in the jungle,
Veerappan came to mind. But let me state clearly that my film and
villain have no direct bearing on Veerappan's life and
activities," Varma says.
